Haverhill, MA (April 21, 2018) – After seeing their nine game win streak snapped yesterday at the hands of Quinsigamond, the Northern Essex Community College baseball team bounced back on Saturday sweeping a double header from MassBay by scores of 9-5 and 27-3.
John Alba (Lawrence, MA) gave the Knights five innings of three hit baseball on the mound to pick up his win of the season.
The Knights got on the board first as they produced two runs with two outs in the second inning. Back to back walks of Nolan Steevens (Wilton, NH) and Ben Irvine (Peobody, MA) led to runs as Steevens scored an error and Irvine scored on a double to right field by Ryan Collins (Peobody, MA).
Four more runs came across in the third inning led by a two RBI triple from Irvine and Collins second RBI double of the game. Leo Romero (Lawrence, MA) and Riley Magee (Windham, NH) also recorded multiple hits as part of 12 hit game one attack.
A complete game eight strikeout performance on the mound from Michael Goodin (Dracut, MA) and 19 hits offensively led the Knights in second game.
Magee led the offense in game two going 4 for 4 with six RBI's. Romero recorded five RBI's, four of which game from a towering fourth inning grand slam over the high wall in left field. Julio Leon (Lawrence, MA) followed Romero in the inning with a solo home run.
Andrew Caulfield (Malden, MA) also recorded a game two home run as 10 batters recorded at least one hit each in the win.
The Knights return to the field tomorrow for a non-divisional doubleheader at UConn-Avery Point. First is scheduled for 1:00pm.
