Jeff Mejia came to Northern Essex as the Knights head coach in the 2013 season. Since his arrival the team has been crowned New England Regional Champions and earned a bid to the NJCAA World Series for the third, fourth, fifth and sixth overall time for the program.  For these accomplishments Coach Mejia has been named the New England Regional Coach of the Year in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.  Before his arrival at NECC, Jeff was a long-time assistant coach at Suffolk University.

2016 was a historic season for the Knights.  For the first time in program history the Knights reached the NJCAA National Championship Game.  The National Runner-up is the highest finish in program history.  In addition, the Knights had three NJCAA All-Americans in Colby Maiola, Traverse Briana and Evan Glew.  Colby also won the National Player of the Year Award and received an athletic scholarship to play baseball at NCAA Division One, UMass Lowell.  Along with Colby, Jordan Roper and Keith Linnane have also earned spots on NCAA Division One teams.

Since 2013 our players have gone on to play at St. John’s University, UMass Lowell, UMass Amherst, Marist College, Ave Marie University, West Virginia Tech, Franklin Pierce University, UMass Boston, Salem State University, Framingham State University, UMass Dartmouth, Western New England University, Rivier University, and Daniel Webster College.

Since Coach Mejia’s arrival, the Knights have produced 6 NJCAA All Americans and 22 First Team All New England players. During the past four seasons, the Knights finished 91-50 (.646%), with a 58-23 (.720%) record in New England, and an 11-2 (.850%) record in the New England Regional Tournament.

The longtime baseball coach is also a co-founder of the Team Boston baseball program, which has produced over 40 NCAA Division 1 players, and the owner of the Rams Athletic Complex, an indoor baseball training facility in North Reading, MA.

Mejia holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Salem State College in Sports Fitness and Leisure Studies, with a concentration in Coaching. He also served in the United States Army and served in Operation Desert Storm. He and his wife Colleen currently reside in North Reading with their two children, Jeff Jr. and Isabella.
