Haverhill, MA (February 17 , 2018) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team stunned visiting Bristol Community College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 102-93. The teams were evenly matched throughout, including a tied score at halftime (43-43) until the Knights were able to pull away late for their third consecutive win to close out the regular season. The Knights improved to 16-11 with the win and now prepare for the upcoming MCCAC tournament. Bristol concluded its regular season with 20-7 record.
Alexis Estrella (Lawrence, MA) led all scorers on Saturday afternoon as he tossed in 35 points to match his career high. Estrella also added in a team high eight assists to go along with seven rebounds. A pair of double-double performances from Kyle Martin (Amesbury, MA) and DJ Greenhalgh (Dracut, MA) helped key the Knigts to the win. Martin has 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds while Greenhalgh scores 11 points to go along with 10 boards.
Three other Knights also cracked double digit points for the game. Emir Alagoz (Istanbul, Turkey) scored 15, Guney Kiliticglu (Istanbul, Turkey) 11 and Tom Jacobs (Tyngsborough, MA) added 10 all of which came from the free throw line.
Bristol was led offensively by Zecarce Veiga who scored 25 points
The Knights will return to the court next Saturday February 24th for the semi-final round of the Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference tournament. The tournament will be played at Springfield Technical Community College. Pairings and game times will be announced in the coming days.
